Botswana’s finest traditional musicians Dr Vom and Culture Spears known for offering hit after hit have proved their prowess once more through Botswana Golden Grand Prix theme song, Runa.
The pack outdid themselves and are getting positive reviews. They featured one of BW’s talented MCs Tshenolo Mosimane known for imitating people’s voices and versatility in production. Listening to Runa one would think that they featured Tshepo Tshola.
In an interview on Friday Culture Spears lead singer Kabelo Mogwe said they wanted to give international attendees a of Africa and Botswana, through Runa (pronounced as runner).
The meet billed for the National Stadium in Gaborone on April 29 is expected to attract international audience.
He said they saw the event as an opportunity to showcase Botswana talent.
“It’s the first event of its kind and we want to entertain spectators and motivate our athletes,” Mogwe said.
Dr Vom of Dikhwaere said their genres have never failed to impress international audience.
He said just like the 2010 World Cup theme song Waka Waka, their intention was for Runa to be that song that would continue to enjoy airplay even after the Gaborone meet.
Dr Vom of Tsaya Thobane fame said for years artistes had created songs for various disciplines mostly football and Rugby, and said the advent of Grand Prix meet, tickled their creative minds to produce a song to honour athletics fraternity known for doing well to fly Botswana Flag Internationally.
“We wanted something that could lure spectators to the stadium while leaving an impression amongst the international community that will be in attendance.”
Dr Vom said it took them about three weeks to produce the Runa.
He said they dropped the song with radio stations on Wednesday, the intention being to create a hype among the possible spectators to ensure that they are part of this big event.
“The lyrics ha re lebelo ga se la motloga pele and ke dithakga tsa lefatshe, taboga ba sie is a motivation to the athletes. Mosimane’s imitation of Tshola’s voice adds some flair to the song.
It’s a great song that Batswana should listen to,” Dr Vom said. He said the response towards the song has been amazing and said the event sponsors have engaged them to perform at the event and after party. Ends
