Three category winners for Miss Francistown, Junior Miss Francistown and Mini Miss Francistown will be selected during a beauty pageant scheduled for John Mackenzie school hall on May 6.

The pageant started with Miss Francistown category in 2019, then last year the pageant had two categories and this year the organisers added Miss Mini category to cater for the  little ones, given the pageantry’s aim of promoting the girl child.

 Director of Fashion Tits and Coordinator of Miss Francistown Beauty Pageant Lucia Matumba said they called for contestants registration, thereafter conducted  training  for ramp walks, talent display as well as giving them motivation to build their confidence. She said they recently the talent and culture night where participants showcased their talent, amongst the contestants, with the vision for them to come out of their cocoons and use their to survive. They also showcased the different cultures not limited to Botswana.    

 “In the mini category seven there were nine participants, the junior had participated while Miss category had three participants. Funds permitting, our desire is for three that will be crowned next month to participate internationally. So our doors are open for sponsors to help us realise our dream.”

Matumba said Osego Matumba, model and beauty queen currently Miss Tourism Ambassador help the contestants with choreography. Matumba will represent Botswana at the international Miss Tourism Ambassador at Nepal in August.  “Beauty pageant have much potential but in most cases, contestants start participating while at tertiary level,” she said this gave rise to poor results and also result in poor self-esteem.

Kealeboga Seokwane, 11 year old, who scooped position one in Talent (mini category) said the competition was an eye opener. She was seconded by Tjezachedu Smart. Seokwane said her mother assisted her to reach that stage and that she also used social media in modelling to align herself with modelling qualities of today. Smart led the pack in Best catwalk mini followed by Unathi Ndori. BOKHUTLO
