03 Apr 2023

Mrs Botswana beauty contestants have been implored to use their projects to help fight the rising incidences  of GBV.

The contestants who are yet to embark on their projects were advised to view themselves as agents of change in social issues such as strengthening of families, child protection and also to remind the community that their efforts were crucial in the fight against GBV.
Mrs Botswana Director Kgalalelo Lesetedi said this during the presentation of the pageant’s Top 20. She said  the selected 20 beauties from various areas across the country were brought together to interact and also to be guided on  them on the projects they would undertake
She further emphasized that bringing the participants together was also to remind them about the 12.5 kilometres sponsored walk billed for May 13, which would mark the International Family Day on May 15
Mrs Botswana will also host a Fashion Show on June 3, where the contestants will be cut from 20 to the final 10 contestants that will battle it out for the coveted prize on a date yet to be announced, she said.
The pageant was introduced in the country seven years ago, and this year’s queen will join other Mrs Universe queens to represent Botswana at the global spectacle slated for Philippines.
A certified public speaker Colleta Peswa encouraged the contestants to be genuine and stick to their true self.

“Be unique and never compare yourselves,” she said.

Further, she advised them to be assertive and to always strive to improve their lives.

For her part, Mrs Botswana 2021/ 2022, Ambrociah Samboko told the beauty queens that  whatever the challenges they faced, they should remember who they are and why they have joined MRS Botswana.
She said she joined Mrs Botswana to work on challenges she faced saying the pageant helped her overcome challenges.
“No matter what you face, tell yourself that I am worthy and I can do it,” she said.
The reigning Mrs Botswana Boipelo Erasmus said the pageant was the best platform she has ever had in her life and her and as a career.
“I don’t want to lie, I have  long wanted to join Mrs Botswana. If you come with positivity, you can get yourself anything depending on your commitment and focus,” she said. Ends
