Eminent South African gospel artistes, Puleng March and Solly Mahlangu will on March 24 perform at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) with a view to raising funds for a good cause.

Dubbed the Glory Gospel Music Festival, the event seeks to raise funds for Lephoi Centre For the Blind, a church-run institution that caters for the development of the visually impaired in Francistown, and the Kgodisong Centre, which offers care for orphaned children in Kanye.

The two non-profit community care institutions are run by the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA), and together with two government -aided UCCSA schools, Moeding College and Maun Senior Secondary School, are due to benefit from the proceeds of the concert.

Segolame Matenge, the chairperson of the UCCSA Young Adults Ministry (YAM) the organ that came up with the idea of the concert, said they had heeded the call to assist in raising funds for the church institutions.

“We got word of the need to assist our non-profit community-based organisations.

The idea of a concert for a good cause came up in order to touch the lives of the orphans, visually impaired, and the pupils attending church boarding schools.

Christians from every denomination and gospel loving Batswana at large are invited to partake in this worthy cause,” she said.

Local group Hosanna Gospel Singers will join the headline South African acts in this festival, and according to Matenge, other curtain raising local acts will be confirmed ahead of the concert.

“We will offer good hospitality to those who attend the event at the GICC glass marquee, and quality sound with a line up of high grade local and the seasoned South African musicians,” she said.

From Tembisa in the East Rand of Johannesburg, Solly Mahlangu is the founder and senior pastor of the Word Praise Christian Centre, in addition to being an award-winning musician, with hits such as Siyabonga Jesu (Wa Hamba Nathi), Obrigado, Bayete and Oa Ntayela Moya.

Also, a multiple award-winning musician, Puleng March, born and raised in Kimberley in South Africa’s Northern Cape, paid her dues as a part of Joyous Celebration and backing prominent gospel artistes including Lundi and Sfiso Ncwane before embarking on her own solo career. ENDS
