Chombos project takes shape

The reigning Miss Botswana queen Lesego Chombo is working around the clock to give her Beauty With A Purpose (BWAP) project shape ahead of the global spectacle.
Pageantry lovers had attributed local queens’ average performance at Miss World to lack of effort in their projects, despite being one of the deciding factors for winning Miss World crown.
This became apparent during the grand finales with their counterparts presenting awe-inspiring, long term and live changing projects.
It is evident that Miss Chombo knows what the Miss World organisers want as she has been exerting effort in her BWAP project and recently she visited Maothate settlement in the Kweneng District as part of her project.
Maothate Learning Centre’s public relations and communications manager Tshepiso Solomon said the queen aimed to equip parents with skills and behavioural attributes necessary in promoting their children’s emotional, social and cognitive well-being.
“The beauty queen visited Maothate Learning Centre, which was established to aid adults by teaching them how to read and write in order to better the quality of their lives.
It has also become a learning facility for children to mitigate the pangs of poverty that has struck the village,” she said
Sharing the sentiments with the queen’s project, the centre saw it fit for her to be part of this initiative.
Chombo’s project aimed to bridge the gap between the environment that children in rural and poverty stricken homes grew up in against those in economically stable and urban homes.
Solomon also said for Miss Botswana to have interacted and played with the children showed her true village girl roots, and she also cooked over open fire with the elders from the community.
The queen said part of her project included hosting developmental outings for economically disadvantaged children in Maun, which included specialist medical checks, educational activities, and introduction to artistry, the goal being to expose the children to a conducive environment and shape their perspective.
