Miss Supranational selection ongoing
21 Feb 2023
The Miss Supranational organisers are busy this week selecting the top 30 finalists from the documented auditions from nine locations in the country.
The auditions ended on Sunday in Gaborone and the selected finalists will compete for the title on April 8.
One of the organisers of the pageant, Kaone Moremong said the winner would compete with contestants from more than 80 countries for the coveted title, adding that they were happy with the auditions outcome.
She noted that they hosted auditions in places such as Maun, Kasane, Ghanzi and Francistown among others.
“So far we have auditioned more than 60 women for the title and have been to nine different areas in the country to host the auditions,” she said.
Moremong noted that the last day of auditions in Gaborone attracted 31 aspiring queens.
She said after selecting the top 30, the group would be further reduced to 12 before embarking on a boot camp and workshops. “There will be a talent show on March 25,” she said.
She said Miss Supranational contestants were also required to present a project of their choice, adding that the winner of the pageant would be required to engage in a community project.
To help fund the pageant, she said they had been documenting the auditions to produce a TV series in order to cover some of the costs and not just depend on the sponsors.
The winner, she said, would drive away with a brand new Haval Jolion vehicle and a scholarship for a degree of her choice. The winner will also be provided with a house and medical aid for the year of her reign.
In adition the winner would be expected to work for an international charity organisation as well as to travel the world promoting tourism and goodwill among all nations.
The first edition of the pageant was held in Poland in 2009, and the winner of Miss Supranational Botswana will join other beauty queens in Poland for the title in July. The current Miss Supranational is Miss South Africa Lalela Mswane who will crown her successor at the end of the glittering affair. ends
