Gaabo Motho Music Festival Saturday

21 Dec 2022

The Gaabo Motho Music Festival (GMMF), one of the biggest shows in the southern part of Botswana will be held in Moshupa on Saturday.

Now in its seventh edition, the show powered by Dladleng Entertainment, hosts popular local and international acts every year attracting large audiences of music enthusiasts. This year, will not be any different as organisers have gone all out to present the best line up for their patrons.

“We have a line-up of the best performers from both South Africa and Botswana, with every music genre represented,” Shawn Ntokolo, one of the organisers said in an interview

Ntokolo said they drew their line-up with patrons’ consideration as they wanted everyone to be entertained and have their money’s worth.

Patrons would be treated to acts such as Botswana’ rhumba king Franco, amapiano king, Kabza De Small, Nkosazana Daughter, Makhadzi and Young Stunna all from South Africa. From Botswana, self-acclaimed Kgosi ya Strata, Vee and Kgosi ya Mosadi, CharmaGal are what Santa Claus has ordered for the GMMF.

Another Botswana great act, multi-award winning DJ Ngwazi would hold down the decks for his fans and celebrate his success with them. The new kid on the block of Away fame, Priscilla K, the people’s favourite Dr Vom of Tsaya Thobane and many others would also entertain at the show with MC Theo directing the show.

With the hashtag #Yaronakaofela, Ntokolo said the event symbolised the coming home for Christmas festivities by those who worked far away, hence welcoming everyone to share in the joys of Christmas after a year’s absence.

The last edition of GMMF was in 2021, following COVID-19 relaxed regulation. “The 2021 edition was not much of a success as we did not make much preparations, we were only testing the market following the pandemic,” Ntokolo said.

Meanwhile, Ntokolo promised his patrons a well-planned show saying they took a leaf out of the 2019 edition where they experienced an overflow of revellers which created frenzy with some artistes such as Black Motion from South Africa not performing as they were unable to reach the venue.

Owning up to the mistakes, Ntokolo said the seventh edition would give revellers a different experience as they had more time to prepare and introspect on the 2019 experiences.

“We learnt a lesson from that experience and have made proper entrance and exits points separately for artistes and patrons,” said Ntokolo, explaining that the main issue then was point of entry, which was a single for all.

Tickets for the show can be purchased at Spar outlets and Choppies stores around the country, Maitisong at Maru a Pula school as well as online from Webtickets. ENDS
