Born and Raised festival returns

20 Dec 2022

Preparations for one of Botswana’s top music festival Born and Raised (BnR) music festival are at an advanced stage.

Expected to attract a big crowd, the sixth edition of BnR is scheduled  Serowe Sports Complex on Friday.

The crowd-pulling music festival has made a name for itself with amazing lineups and surprise activities such as air shows.

The organisers have warmed the hearts of many and set themselves apart with their community social responsibilities acts.

This year the organisers showed that they are a force to reckon with when they held the festival’s activation in South Africa where they had patrons calling for more.

Evidently Born and Raised is not only popular in the country but even across the borders.

This past weekend activation in Serowe left many revelers salivating, with high hopes for the Friday show.

In an interview the Director of Born and Raised, Goaba Mojakgomo, explained that the motive behind the music festival was to contribute to two of Botswana’s Vision 2036 pillars: sustainable economic development and social development.

He said they expected six artistes from South Africa among them, Johnny Mokhali, Nkosasana Daughter, S.K.O, Masa Musiq, Oscar Mbo and Senior Oat while ATI, Vee Mampeezy, Nana-c, Culture Spears, Franco and Afro musica among others would represent the local side.

“We are also in the business of trying to ensure that we help upcoming artistes. The idea is to show the world that we are capable too. We have pledged to support the guys in all possible ways, hence are also bringing a renowned local DJ,” he said.

He mentioned that part of the profit made from the show would be channeled to community projects.

“We donated and furnished a two-bedroom house in Palla Road to a family of 15 last year. We also brought groceries estimated to last two months or so for the family.

The second house was built at Mathako in Tswapong, a two-and-half roomed for a man and his nine children whose wife had passed away.

Born and Raised has also adopted Motalaote Primary School in Serowe and has donated P75 000, computers and printers too.

During COVID-19 pandemic they pledged P20 000 to the Ministry of Health and Wellness to assist in the fight against the pandemic.

The return of BnR each year puts smiles on small business people in Serowe as the show boosts their businesses. ENDS
