Thirty new talent has been spotted during the Department of Broadcasting Services (DBS) roadshow that started September.
Thato ‘Dj Fresh’ Sikwane told BOPA after Gaborone talent show, which was the penultimate episode of the roadshow recently, that together with DBS, Big Dawg Productions would hold a boot camp for 30 young and upcoming talent next month.
The last village to be visited was Molepolole on Sarturday. “We picked 30 whom we believe can be polished to improve their craft,” said DJ Fresh.
He said the boot camp, which President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi would be a part of, would run for a week.
DJ Fresh said there were some talented Batswana in remote areas, but budgetary constraints stood between them and realising their dreams was.
“It was important, therefore, for DBS to reach out and expose them to the necessary tools that can take them out there,” he said.
DJ Fresh said some of the upcoming creatives they identified as they toured the country lacked exposure, or it was a challenge for them to travel to Gaborone, where most opportunities were.
He also noted factors such as technological reach and even lack of confidence to reach out, adding that more needed to be done.
“We did not do enough, 50 small villages and settlements is not enough because there is so much talent out there, which needs to be unearthed and nurtured accordingly and appropriately,” he stated. ENDS
