South Africa hip hop artist K.O was in his best at the annual Pretty Girls Love Good Music show in Tlokweng on Sunday.
Born Ntokozo Mdluli, K.O also known as MrCashtime; set the stage ablaze with his subtle, yet mesmerising performance to the cheers and screams of his fans.
The ‘Skhanda love hit maker dished out almost all his popular songs such as CaraCara, Suoa Dupa, Mhlobo Wami and Ne le Walk.
His latest hit Sete, which he did last, sent revellers on a frenzy.
The muso thanked fans saying Sete was the biggest song currently because of them.
“The energy was amazing and it felt good to be back in Gaborone, it is always love in Botswana and seeing that engagement with the crowd is what fuels me on stage,” K.O said during a post-performance interview.
Having performed in Botswana for over 17 years, K.O said he was open to collaborate with artists from Botswana.
“At the moment nothing has come to my table, but when the opportunity comes, I will definitely do it. It is only right that I reciprocate the love,” he said. He said his record label Skhanda Love was open to opportunities with new talent and artists.
Sete crossed double platinum within days of release and reached five million views in three weeks after release. The song dominated charts not only in South Africa but in Botswana as well.
Another South Africa hip hop artist, Nasty C, also gave his fans a good performance.
Impressed by Botswana’s Baxon, Nasty C said in an interview that working with one of artists in Botswana was something he would consider.
“I have not seen any of Botswana hip hop artists do their thing on stage, until today with Baxon and I am impressed and open for collaboration,” said Nasty C, whose last performance in Botswana was in 2018.
Baxon was an opening act for the show following the DJs performances.
His fans went wild at his performance of Mosoroto, which he did with the late Sasa Klaas.
Baxon expressed concern at the priority promoters gave artists from South Africa over them.
“They are working hard, but I feel they are not giving local artists the platform they deserve to shine. So this is something they need to do better on,” he said.
He also called on his colleagues in the industry to work on professionalism if they wanted to go a long way. Baxon said he is working on an album which is due for release next year.
Meanwhile, local DJs, Casper the DJ and Phouboy set the mood for the revellers after a long wait as artists’ performance was delayed.
Commenting on the entertainment industry, Casper said there was progress.
“Things are changing and we are happy about the efforts being done,” he said.
Casper the DJ said he was working on releasing an album called Lalavuka.
Other performers at the Pretty Girls Love Good Music show were William Last KRM, South Africa’s amapiano act Focalistic as well as local DJs. ENDS
