Shorobe celebrates Miss Botswana

The Shorobe community has expressed optimism that Miss Botswana, Lesego Chombo, will prove her mettle by winning the international pageant.
At a sendoff celebration, filled Seyei traditional dance and songs at Shorobe kgotla, village leaders and family members took turns to offer her messages of encouragement in preparations of her journey to Miss World.
Chombo was in Shorobe to appreciate her project in the village.
The project seeks to create a conducive environment for the economically disadvantaged children.
The village chief, Kgosi Maphomo Maphomo said they expected Chombo to raise the bar and fly the country’s flag high at Miss World.
The community, he said, was gratified of her achievement, hence seeing it fit to organise a cultural reception in her honour.
Village Development Committee chairperson, Baleseng Gwanga, concurred that Chombo would continue to make Ngamiland and the country proud by bringing the prestigious title home.
He appreciates Chombo’s project saying it would help address challenges faced by orphans and needy children in the village.
He also expressed concern that most of such children were roaming the streets because they could not proceed to senior secondary schools.
Gwanga urged the community to rally behind the queen’s project to thrive, adding they should secure a plot where she would drill young people on life skills.
Area councillor, Oabile Chombo, thanked the community for honouring Miss Botswana noting that they had demonstrated that she was indeed an extra ordinary queen.
He encouraged them to support her during her preparations for the world stage.
He made a plea to support efforts indeded to raise funds for her project.
For her part, Chombo thanked Shorobe community for demonstrating love towards her.
She assured residents that she would raise high the culture and image of the country nationally and globally, adding ‘I am born to a family of devoted Christians who taught me traditional values, and I commit to sell and share our diverse and rich culture as I traverse the world.’
The culture aspect, she said would enhance her country’s enviable record at the event.
Meanwhile, the community showered her with basketry gifts to show appreciation. ENDS
