Hog lovers will be in for a treat courtesy of Tsa Ga Malete Event Management Company’s inaugural annual Pork Festival slated for Tashy’s Royal Garden on Saturday.
This year’s festival is sponsored by Fitch & Leeds and the event is expected to create a memorable food experience and provide a space to network and promote brands.
“Tsa Ga Malete, is a newly registered event management company borne out of a concern over the diminishing Balete culture, traditions and knowledge of symbolic attributes that set Balete apart,” event coordinator, Teseletso said.
She said the company was owned by Batswana born in Ramotswa who found the need to come up with activities likely to lure people to Ramotswa.
The company’s mandate included hosting event which will be a trademark of cultural preservation, resuscitation of tradition, and knowledge sharing.
The company yearns to use events as an opportunity to impart knowledge about Balete tribe to the young generations as well as the nation at large, Teseletso said in an interview.
Tsa Ga Malete prided itself with the Annual Pork Festival to be held over the weekend.
She said Ramotswa was chosen as a hub for the festival because Balete were historically known for household rearing of pigs which freely roamed the streets and neighborhoods.
“We want to help position Ramotswa as a piggery hub and work with relevant stakeholders to make that happen. We also want to ensure that pork is an alternative to beef and chicken in our daily meals and diets,” Teseletso continued.
The event coordinator stated that the festival sought to profile the piggery industry, profiling of piggery projects in Botswana and market them, contribute to food security for Batswana by promoting food production through the promotion and support of the piggery sector.
She said they geared to enhance knowledge on a variety of products in the piggery value chain such as soap making, snacks making and to assist in demystifying perceptions about pork for the promotion of the industry.
