Kulture quintet makes it

Tlokweng’s Royal Aria Stadium was definitely the place to brave the heavy downpours for this Saturday, thanks to Kulture, a group of five young Batswana, who ensured their first impression stuck in the minds of revellers.
For their maiden gig, the quintet brought none other than Black Coffee, an internationally acclaimed South African DJ.
The award winning legend did not disappoint either. He spun his magic to the delight of fans, who previously doubted if he would really show up, considering his fame and being in demand the world over.
When Black Coffee posted his Africa Tour schedule on his Instagram handle earlier Saturday, Botswana made the list, as though to allay fears that the much celebrated DJ might not show up.
The last time Black Coffee performed in Botswana was in 2015.
The fact that it was also Kulture’s maiden gig did not help the doubting Thomases scepticism either, but lo and behold, the quintet indeed managed to book Black Coffee in spite of his relatively high fee and year-long back-toback-bookings.
Although the showers were heavy enough to scare the night crawllers away, Black Coffee’s fans proved that they were not the ones to be deterred and nothing was going to stop them from experiencing their favourite performer.
The show, which was scheduled for outdoors, was moved indoors, still at Royal Aria Stadium, owing to the downpours, which was a bit of a challenge for the organisers.
They, none the less, said they were satisfied with the turn up.
“We planned the gig as an outdoor event, but we prevailed although we had to cut the line-up because of time constraints due to rain,” Kulture’s Thato Mochipisi said in a post-event interview.
She expressed satisfaction at the success of the event and applauded fans for their patronage.
Fans were also treated to local performances in Han C, who was joined by Charma Gal as well as Mpho Sebina on stage.
From South Africa, DJ Kent, PH and Themba thrilled the fans with their performances.
Later on, Themba encouraged local DJs to strive for uniqueness in order to make strides in the industry.
“No one wants to see another Themba or DJ Fresh,” he said, adding, ‘just be unique in your craft and people will love you for your talent and appreciate you more’.
Then the moment everyone had been waiting for arrived.
Black Coffee ascended the stage.
The crowd went berserk!
And he did baptise them with his smooth, soulful pieces.
From the start to the end, Black Coffee’s dance-oriented tunes kept everyone on their toes.
Born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, Black Coffee is a frequent headliner of festivals and super clubs around the world.
A resident at Ibiza, Spain, he demonstrated why he is celebrated globally by performing a two-hour set instead of the initial one and half hour he was scheduled for.
Not to be outshined in his own backyard, DJ Fresh also blazed the stage with some classic favourites from his albums.
He played alongside a live band, giving fans tune after tune after tune.
After Black Coffee there came PH, diverting the fans from Afrotech to Afrobeat, Hip Hop and some smooth remixed Amapiano.
“Botswana is one of my favourite places,” PH said in an interview.
He said the love he always experienced in Botswana was ‘parental’ and unconditional.
Impressed by Han C, PH said he was contemplating a collaboration with him.
“We had plans before to work together, but could not finalise them. However, we are still on that note,” PH made an assurance. Ends
