Dream comes true for Charma Gal

31 Oct 2022

Charma Gal, as Magdeline Lesolebe is fondly called in musical circles finally delivered her dream of hosting a historical music show dubbed Kgosi Ya Mosadi to celebrate her musical sojourn.

The national stadium was not filled to the brim but to her, it remained a dream come true to perform before a sizeable crowd who danced the night away.

The long-awaited music show finally happened under a cool breeze Saturday night much to the delight of her fans who had waited for the last three months to see their star perform.

The show was headlined by Congolese superstar Koffi Olomide with a string of other local performing acts amongst them MMP Family and Khoisan.

Heading to the final and daylong event on Saturday, preparations for the historic event had progressed well with Charma Gal keeping her fans guessing artistes who would  be part of the line was up.

Olomide and his 19-piece band Quartier Latin finally trotted on stage past midnight after a lengthy sound check.

They opened the stage with Respect, a lovely up-tempo banger which got the sleepy crowd on their feet.

Respect is from the award-winning album Effrakata, which saw Olomide bag four awards in one night during the KORA Music awards in South Africa in the late 90s.

Quartier Latin appeared on stage in the absence of Olomide who made a grand entrance clad in his unique costume spotting red, yellow and green, colours mostly associated with central African nations.

When he finally arrived on stage Quartier Latin played Loi, another hit from his album released in 1997.

It was quickly followed by Selfie and Papa Ngwasuma.

The latest song has enjoyed massive airplay internationally because of its sing-along lyrics and popular dance style Papa mobimba moves.

Olomide exited the stage and the crowd wanted more from him. He jogged memories of his diehard fans by another 1997 hit.

He captured many hearts with his powerful deep vocals, neatly arranged lyrics and a dozen instruments from his backing band which were perfectly in tune.

Whatever Charma Gal had been dreaming of turned into reality when his legion of fans joined her to savour the captivating songs of her discography.

She kicked off the show with an emotional piece Betang pelo ba Morena, drawing loud applause from her fans who sang along.

She chose a perfect red dress for the night which resonated with her voice quite perfectly. ends
