Camels Inn to host Kwaisong event next month
26 Oct 2022
Traditionally, families spent evenings around a fire, sharing traditional music, poetry and folklore.
The open fire place used for cooking was called leiso or kwaisong and it is on this background that Camels Inn Lodge in Mmopane has launched Kwaisong, a night of traditional food, dance and poetry to be held on November 26.
Various traditional music groups, amongst them, Gata-la-tau, Mafitlhakgosi, Afro Jazz maestro Socca Moruakgomo and Ditiro Leero will spice the night.
Briefing the media on Tuesday, the lodge’s managing director, Barudi Mosimaneotsile, said they re-launched the event after it was affected by the COVID-19 regulations and promised an even bigger and better night.
She said they came up with the idea after realising that modern lifestyles threatened to erode the country its traditional way of life adding.
Mosimaneotsile said the event would also offer traditional cuisine and games such as morabaraba and mhele.
This was also meant to provide entertainment for families, with the event starting at 11 am.
The MD said this was also an opportunity for children to learn the traditional way of life, adding the idea was to pass traditional knowledge to a younger generation.
For his part, Moruakgomo said he was delighted to be part of the event, adding he looked forward to collaborate with other artists on stage.
He said his jazz differed with international genre as he had infused traditional music and this he said enabled him to collaborate with other musicians.
Moruakgomo promised an eventful day and said he would feature songs from all his albums.
Leero said he was delighted to work with other artistes.
He said they had a lot of entertainment to offer especially as Gata-la-tau and Mafitlhakgosi had different dances with the latter also having a marimba troupe.
Leero further said it was time Batswana enjoyed their culture and said hopefully this would be an annual event.
He called upon Batswana to embrace their traditional way of life adding they should be proud of their culture.
Ticket prices range from P100 to P150 double and P2 000 for corporates paying for a maximum of 10 people. Ends
