Lesego Chombo was crowned Miss Botswana 2022 at Gaborone’s Fairscape Precinct Saturday.
Chombo, who works as an attorney, also won P100 000.
Her runner-ups are Tshepo Nthaga, first princess, and Sebaga Manyapetsa.
During question time, Chombo impressed the judges when she answered that in order for Botswana to close the missing link to its economic diversification effort, the country has to start investing in the beauty industry.
The 24-year-old Maun-born queen said the beauty industry was more diverse than what people perceived.
She was asked how Botswana could close the beauty industry missing gap for its economic diversification by one of the panellists, Mmegi Online Editor Sharon Mathala.
One of the attendees, Kabelo Letshwiti, said in an interview that Miss Botswana was on point to advocate for the industry.
He said more support was needed for the industry to prosper and create employment opportunities.
“People will have access to opportunities and resources and this will promote equality,” he said.
One Macheng echoed sentiments that for the beauty industry to grow, it was imperative for government to include industry players in the decision-making process.
Attendees included Miss World 2022 Karolina Bielawska, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Peggy Serame as well as Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare.
The night was serenaded by Hanceford Magapatona commonly known as Han C who gave a splendid performance. Ends
