Jakuaterwa Mauano of Chukumuchu and Rijeterera Marenga of Xaixai are Okavango Mr and Miss RADP Fashion king and queen respectively.

The two were crowned during the fashion show held at Gumare on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Marenga and 25-year-old Mauano impressed the judges on areas of confidence, stage presence, appropriate attire and use of props, level of understanding and relevance of answers among others.

This year saw 24 contestants from the seven settlements in the Okavango Sub-district such as Tobera, Gudigwa, Xaixai, Qangwa and Chukumuchu battling it out to ensure that Okavango would be represented at the Miss and Mr RADP Fashion Show nationals set for Gaborone next month.

Onalethata Xixae of Xaixai and Atamelang Koshunya of Tobera became first and second princesses respectively while Julias Karuruu of Qangwa and Kenalemang Soria of Xaixai were sashed first and second prince respectively.

In her remarks, Botswana Savings Bank, branch manager in Gumare, Godirwang Tshepo said Miss RADP was part of government’s affirmative action plan.

She noted that the pageant helped to recognise talent in remote areas and as a result empowered young people from those areas.

She observed that pageant winners were funded to do some projects in their respective areas.

Tshepo shared that BSB had also come on board and sponsored the pageant in the Okavango District at a tune of P10 000.

She noted that two queens had so far won the coveted title at the nationals in the eight years of the competition. BOPA
