Mafikizolo fail Maun Carnival

Maun Carnival music festival revellers were left disappointed in Boro as the South African group, Mafikizolo was missing in action on Independence Day.
Mafikizolo was scheduled to headline the show with local acts, Lizibo, Stiga Sola, Koolkat Motjiko, Nature BW and Zimbabwe’s Sulumani.
Night crawlers were left hanging as they braved the morning chills anticipating for the South African group to take stage.
In an interview, the festival organiser, Moses Mutapati acknowledged that they had messed up their logistics which resulted in Mafikizolo missing in action.
Mutapati attributed Mafikizolo’s absence to flight scheduling which he said had resulted in the group missing flights.
“We had wanted to charter a flight from Johannesburg to Maun, however we realised that it was expensive to do so,” he explained.
He therefore apologised to their supporters, adding they would redeem themselves in next year’s edition of Maun Carnival.
On one hand, the handful who were patient enough for a layover consoled themselves dancing to DJ Pun’s mix as performers only took to the stage after midnight.
‘Kwa Seronga’ fame Koolkat Motjiko soothed the spectators with his new single ‘Sedimo’ and a whole lot of his old songs including the sing along ‘Kwa Seronga’.
Lizibo did not disappoint as he opened his performance with ‘Ama Loliwe’ provoking the revellers to stand on their feet and occupy the front line and sing along.
The afro-pop sensation shone on stage embellishing with Kalanga colloquial as he engaged with the audience.
His ‘Malebeswa’ anthem stole the show, inviting audience to chant, ‘malebeswa nthu wangu a ndi linga ndo tebuka se nkaka wa ka bidwa’ and doing a Setswana rendition as he resonated ‘Ke nnete motho wame fa ke go leba ke a tshologa jaaka mashi mo isong’.
Sulumani closed down the show with a live band singing the Shona tunes as people danced the night away.
Meanwhile, Maun revellers were on independence eve disappointed at the Maun Summer festival as the headline act Makhadzi was nowhere to be found at Maun Sport Complex. Ends
