South African Afro Pop duo Mafikizolo thrilled fans giving them their money’s worth at Leteise on Fleek event at Royal Aria stadium in Tlokweng on Saturday.
Fans were taken down memory lane with the duo’s old-time hits such as Ndihamba Nawe, Emlanjeni, Ngeke Balunge, Udakwa Njalo, with their performance complemented cheers from the fans.
The patrons’ response evidenced that the pair of Lotto fame still have that effect on their local fans who played a part in them being part of the show.
The public was earlier this year tasked to choose between Mafikizolo and Ringo Madlingozi and they settled for Mafikizolo to be part of the event’s lineup. The duo Nhlanhla Nciza and Theo Kgosinkwe’s always do it for their fans, fashion wise.
Its undeniable that the pair was chosen for its distinctive fashion sense and scintillating tunes in line with the event’s idea of promoting Africanism especially the attire.
Some of the songs that kept the fans dancing included Tchelete and Lerato le Monate which the duo closed their set with. Despite being known for their chic outfits on stage, they did not live to the show and fans expectations regarding attire.
“We came unaware of the theme, we just thought we were going to a festival and therefore we were not properly dressed for this event,” explained Nhlanhla of Mafikizolo in an interview post performance.
Nhlanhla regretfully said it would have been amazing if they had been given heads up on the theme.
“You know we always go all out and we would have honoured the theme, so this should give the promoter to call us again next year so that we come all prepared,” Nhlanhla said.
Regarding collaboration, Nhlanhla said as a duo they are always open for collaborations.
She said as artistes they should always be open to work with other musicians from the continent. “Collaborations are amazing because, as artistes we grow our market through them, and also affords us an opportunity to learn about each other’s cultures, as artistes from Africa and beyond,” she said.
She further noted they have always wanted to work with Botswana artistes such as Vee Mampeezy.
“We started out together with Vee and we still want that collaboration with him,” Nhlanhla said.
Leteise on Fleek attracted revellers who honoured the theme draped in various patterns and colours of leteise.
“This is a show where we are able to dress up in our traditional leteise besides the weddings, so as a fan I am excited to be here,” noted Tebo Phaladi.
Another fan, Kutlo Mogopa expressed her disappointment at Mafikizolo for not dressing up, but however she said the duo sterling performance.
“Although I was expecting to see them in stylish outfit for this event, I am glad that they took us down memory lane with their hit songs,” Kutlo said. ENDS
