27 Sep 2022

Katlego Nfila is Miss Independence Serowe 2022.

The 16-year-old was chosen the fairest of them all to walk away with crown during the pageagent at Serowe College of education last Friday.

The first and second princess sashes went to Masego Jimmy and Thato Seboka.

Nfila bagged P 1500 while Jimmy and Seboka pocketed P1 000 and P700 respectively.

Speaking after her coronation, Nfila revealed that it has been her biggest breakthrough and a testament that she has gained experience and confidence in her walking, presentation and public speaking skills, traits that she had been yearning to master.

“The pageant’s aim was to go national and indeed this year we ensured that we open the entry to each and every Motswana, not just Serowe natives,” explained pageant organiser Janet Phemelo.

The pageant strived to preserve Setswana culture, by nurturing strong future leaders with strong cultural background, she said in an interview after the show.

She said she took pride in instilling knowledge and nurturing young talent, though it was difficult to organise the pageant due to lack of funds.

Serowe eye clinic supported the event.

The judges had a tough job as all the top three ladies nailed their questions but at the end of the day, Nfila emerged winner.

Phemelo applauded the participants for a job well done.

Opening the event Kgosi Serogola Seretse thanked the organisers for the event to find it fit to take action to groom young ladies.

He said he wished to see them participating in high level pageants such as Miss World, Miss Botswana and Miss Heritage.

Kgosi said pageantry was capable of putting food on the table for unemployed young ladies and he urged them to explore their talents.  ENDS
