It was a night to behold for art lovers as Wilson Ngoni adorned Gaborone’s Airport Junction Mall basement with more than 189 paintings on Saturday.
The showcasing signature dubbed Brush Night with Wilson Ngoni displayed paintings he did over the years.
In an interview, Ngoni said some of the paintings were more than 22 years old.
An artist captivated by drawing pictures of women and children among other things, he maintained that the most beautiful women were from Botswana, therefore he needed to respect them through the brush.
“For us to conquer the world, we need to respect women, Botswana has the most beautiful women and the world has to see that,” he said.
Despite his respect for women as evidenced by his works, he was not happy about how they were always against each other and advised them to fix each other’s crowns.
Ngoni also said artists in Botswana needed to be celebrated and be encouraged to sell their art than giving it for free.
“Do you include paintings as part of your groceries? We need to learn that artists are valuable and in order to push their craft they needed the support,” he said.
Ngoni also said artists formed part of the society as they were able to tell a story and help people unwind.
He said they refilled the truth and taught people a lot of things through the brush.
The award winning artist whose brush has also been felt internationally such as Germany, USA , Africa and beyond had the opportunity to teach art lovers how to hold the brush during the night.
The night graced by people from all walks of life, music and art lovers had the time to interact with the Botswana’s finest artist. BOPA
