Madame Queen catches them young

18 Sep 2022

Miss Junior Botswana oganisers held a fashion show at Riverwalk mall, Saturday as an activation towards the pageant’s finale billed for Gaborone on October 2.

The organisers used the fashion show to instil a sense of giving back and be actively involved in charitable activities.

The event was used to raise funds for charity.

“Every contestant will be fundraising by contributing various essentials which will be donated to Childline,” said Queen Kolobe of Madame Queen.

She said said they were expecting essentials such as food, clothing, toiletries and others from each one of the girls, with their vision being to groom them at tender age to be role models.

She said they also groomed and nurtured them to be responsible and compassionate citizens

Sponsored by CB Stores at a tune of P30 000, the fashion show was also aimed at showcasing the store’s latest collection.

Kolobe said the fashion show was also a way of giving the contestants an insight of what to expect when they use their vouchers at the store after the pageant.

She also noted that the fashion show served as an Independence celebratory activity which restricted young girls away from the streets.

Kolobe applauded sponsors and partners for being instrumental in the creative industry and nurturing young talent.

“This helps us because this activity keeps children busy and the pageant gives them an opportunity to enjoy what they are passionate about,” Kolobe said.

In her word of encouragement, 2019 Miss Junior Botswana, Janice Petso, called on contenstants  to have fun and support each other. “This is about sisterhood more than competition, it is about learning each other’s differences,” Petso said.

The 13-year-old Janice, a standard seven pupil at Ledumang Primary School, said she would forever be indebted to the pageant as it gave her an opportunity to work with charity.

“Doing charity works is an amazing thing. To give to the less privileged is a blessing and a gift and people who do that are special and true,” she said.

Janice said she understood the struggles people with disabilities and less privileged were faced with and assured them that they were not alone.

Having served the longest reign, Janice said she learnt a lot during her reign.

“I have no regrets about participating in this pageant. It has been one of the best years of my life, I have learnt so much, about different people and their emotions, how they feel and how they interact with each other,” she said.

Whilst not modelling and chasing crowns, Janice said she was passionate about planets and outer spaces as well as interacting with people and learning more about the human phenomenon.

She said she was aspired to study in the field of planets and space in future.

Madame Queen previously worked with SOS Children, House of Deaf in Francistown and currently working with Childline.

Their partners included CB Stores, Choppies, Topline, Fashion World and Celebrity World as well as Riverwalk mall.

Tickets for the 2022 Miss Junior Botswana are for sale at P300 adults and P150 for children aged 6-13 years. ENDS
