Sponsors who made possible the recent Miss RADP 2022 beauty pageant held in Serowe have been appreciated for their gesture, which aligns well with government’s decision to improve the socio-economic status of people in rural settlements.

In his address during the appreciation ceremony on Tuesday, council chairperson, Lesedi Phuthego said the Remote Area Development Programme (RADP) pageant facilitated talent identification and promoted inclusiveness of young women in the mainstream society.

“The pageant enables them to participate in national events, which in turn provides them with a platform to showcase their talents and hopefully expose them to greater opportunities,” he said.

Phuthego appreciated Asphalt Botswana company, which is maintaining Serowe-Palapye road and Botswana Power Cooperation (BPC) for contributing P86 450 and P10 000 respectively and encouraged them to keep up the spirit.

Phuthego said the event was one of those held annually, but was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He said since government was unable to fund them the authorities  found it important to request for assistance from various companies given the aim of the pageant, which was to improve the quality of life of citizens in remote areas by providing them with various poverty alleviation programmes.

BPC representative, Poloko Dobo said their aim was not to gain profit, but to contribute to community developments, especially in their areas of operation.

Dobo stated that RADS people needed assistance to better their lives.

Asphalt Botswana coordinator, Oarabile Maribeng said they found it fit to extend a helping hand, promising that they would assist where possible in future. ENDS
