Women of Jazz will host Thari ya Sechaba jazz festival at Molapo Piazza on September 24.

Announcing the festival during a media briefing in Gaborone on Tuesday, director of B.T.K productions, Tsholofelo Keebone said they were bringing ten women jazz musicians from the southern, central and northern parts of Botswana.

The line-up would include popular Botswana women of Jazz: Nono Siile, Nnunu Ramogotsi-Neil, and Punah Gabasiane –Molale, he said.

Other female artists expected to grace the festival are Mshilo Malatsi, Atamelang Marumolo, Poifo Majadi and Tebogo Ketlhoilwe amongst others.

Keebone said women in the creative industry had over the years, not earned the recognition they deserved hence the concert aimed to showcase female musicians’ potential.

He also said he believed in supporting local talent to boost the economy, adding that he was confident that the concert would bear fruit as it featured Jazz musicians with numerous awards to their names.

Also, he said the festival was committed to advancing equality, prominence and opportunities for women in the music industry. Punah Gabasiane-Molale said the concert was a package that would shake the country as women who had musical badges on their shoulders would be showing Botswana their talent.

“As women we are graceful, powerful and have tirelessly showcased our talents in Botswana and even on international platform, “she said.

 “We are going to talk about it and do it in song to show our leaders that we are equally capable, we need facilities of creative arts and the representation of women in the creative industry,” she said.

Nunu Ramogotsi Neil pleaded with music lovers  to support the initiative by buying tickets, describing the concept as beautiful.

As for those who would be performing in support of the concept, she said the festival would also feature Anafiki, Kast, Lister Boleseng and Mosako among others. ENDS
