20 Apr 2022

Serowe Sports complex will be the place to be on independence day where Kings Multi Media will be hosting Home Sweet Home music festival# ReipusaGoutwala.

The inaugural festival themed: Go Tsosolosa Ngwao mo Gae mo Motseng, promises revellers an independence to remember with Botswana’s finest artistes and few South Africa making the line up.

In an interview event coordinator Amogelang Thomas, said they expected artistes who hailed from Serowe AKA Sjapi and other areas to showcase their talent on the night.

Artistes expected to perform include A.T.I, Mmabesi choir, Dipetsana, Peplas, Chief Bestos, DJ King, Bieps, Swaps Double  while South Africa will be represented by Senior Oat and Zanda Zakuda.

Kabelo Mothankana AKA DJ King, Boipelo Gaodumelwe stage name DJ Bieps and Snag Ditoro are the brains behind the festival with the inspiration to promote local talent.

This event came about following  the realisation that most artistes in villages were often overlooked during big events, with most organisers considering artistes in urban areas.

Home Sweet Home promises the residents and those who have been home away a memorable independence day especially those who prefer celebrating the independence holidays at their home village.

The organisers yearn to unite people in a grand way.

Thomas stated that the show was expected to start at 10am where children will be treated to various activities such as face painting, quad bike riding, jumping castle, water slide and mascot display.

This will pave way for the elderly to enjoy themselves throughout the night.

Thomas said music festival would also boost local vendors as they would be limited food stalls for grabs.

The coordinator said they  desired to hold the event annually given the economic benefits that comes with such events.

He said if marketed well Home Sweet Home could change Serowe entertainment landscapes, and the festical could be an event which revellers could look up to it every September.

He said the event could also boost local businesses as such events attracted outsiders, who could patronise accommodation facilities, transport amongst others.

Part of the proceeds will be donated to some beneficiaries that will be identified with the help of social workers.

One of the street vendors who sold food and drinks during recent festivals, Lesego Tapologo, said they made a killing from festivals as they attracted residents and revelers from outside Serowe.

Temba Osupile known for selling meat portions such as ditlhogo le ditlhako tsa dikgomo said festivals and special events led to many benefits within the host community.

He said while expectations were that festivals were a time to cash, that was not always the case and said there were risks too, such as the show flopping despite the money spent on preparations.

Osupile said that at times one could return home with the whole stock resulting in losses especially that they sold already cooked food.

Home Sweet Home is supported by Oduetse Legal Practice, Look Print and All Night Security, Khumo Boergoat, Ngwapa.

Tickets are available at Liquorama, Spar and Webtickets. Ticjets for children go for P50 while early bird for the main event sell for  P100, standard P150, P200 at the gate. VIP tickets go for P500.  ENDS
