UCCSA raises funds through heritage walk

04 Sep 2022

The UCCSA Church in Mogoditshane on Saturday held a heritage walk aimed at raising funds for maintenance of historical sites.

The sites include Livingstone Kolobeng located 3km west of Kumakwane and Thataganyane in Serowe.

The funds will also be used to maintain Moeding College, Maun Secondary School and Lephoi Centre for the Blind, which were built by the church.

The other purpose for the walk was to promote a healthy lifestyle especially following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking at the end of the walk, Minister of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture, Tumiso Rakgare applauded the church for the role it played to develop the country.

Before independence, he said, churches played a critical role in establishing education and health facilities in the country and that provided a crucial foundation for a newly independent country.

He said the church’s role in providing education to the country’s founding fathers could never be undermined, and he further applauded the UCCSA for maintaining its historical sites as they had to be preserved for future generations.

Walking helps protect people against Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) such as hypertension, he said.

Minister Rakgare, who is also MP for Mogoditshane, explained the measures that  government introduced to protect the nation from the effects of COVID-19.

The government imposed lockdowns and later limited the number of people coming to church and that made it difficult for people to meet with their pastors.

He said the measures were crucial, adding that while people lost lives, the effects were not as dreadful as in other countries.

The minister, who was accompanied by his wife, donated P1 500 towards the church.  ENDS
