GIMC choral music festival thrills spectators

01 Sep 2022

Macecilia A St Paul, a gospel group from Lesotho still has what it takes to keep spectators glued to the stage despite that members are mostly elderly people.

Giving a thrilling live performance on Tuesday night at Maitisong Theatre during the on-going Gaborone International Music and Culture week, the group maintained consistent energy, the passion they displayed as well as their voices that blended well with the instrumental beats left spectators yearning for more.

Some of the songs that thrilled and kept spectators on their toes were Morena ke motshegetsi wame, Tsamaya Jonas and Nkarabe among others.

As the spectators danced along, one could figure out that the songs revived some spirits that had been dampened by the COVID-19 pandemic and other social challenges.

In an interview, the vice president of Macecilia A Saint Paul, Sylvester Phofu, said taking part in the GIMC was a milestone achievement that would expose the group to other parts of the continent.

Phofu said the group had been in existence for 15 years and had so far released 10 albums that had penetrated the market well.

He said music was not for entertainment only, but a means to instill hope and encouragement to those challenged and also provide a source of livelihood.

Phofu said their focus was only on gospel music to encourage some people to refrain from ungodly practices that fueled some of the social challenges that most people battled with.

“GIMC has been in existence for eight years now and since its inception we have worked collectively with different music groups locally and now it was  time to spread wings for the benefit of the brand and the creative industry,” said the founder of GIMC, Thapelo Pabalinga.

He said local artistes could benchmark from Macecilia A St Paul. ENDS
