My Star television talent show contestants who secured slots in the competition’s Top 10 have not only garnered votes to survive weekly eliminations, but made adjudication a challenging task due to their strong vocals.

Since My Star music competition’s launch in June, spectators have been treated to good music from the contestants who have also shown growth in their craft with each weekly eliminations.

In an interview following the Top 10 launch at Adansonia Hotel in Francistown on Saturday, the director of My Star, Keabetswe Sesinyi alias Master Dee, said the competition had reached an advanced stage, and the race was tough, given the caliber of contestants.

The Top 10 contestants did not only attend the launch, but were also involved in a clean-up campaign as a way to give back to the community

The director said even though the competition had taken shape, with music rehearsals and all the voice trainings they were providing to the contestants, they were requesting sponsors to come on board in order to help grow the show that had unearthed much talent over the years.

He said since the show started in 2007, it had produced pronounced musicians that had grown the moment they kick started their singing career at My Star.

“We don’t only train the aspiring singers on voice training, but we actually make that platform for them to know who they are,” he said.

He said this year’s competition had taken another good turn due to the introduction of My Star desk, where the contestants sought help, and also when watching the show one would realise that the picture and sound quality has improved.

Master Dee said even though some did not secure enough votes to be on the Top 10 or to win their music journey did not end after the competition or the moment they were eliminated.

Some, he said, had learnt to engage with the audience and knowing where to be as performers as well as keeping the balance.

He also said My Star winners had been afforded university scholarship, which had helped them to grow their careers.

He cited musicians making it in Botswana’s music industry such as Kitso, Ivon, Amantle, Motlha, AIT, just to mention a few, whom he said were now big names in the country.

He said the show did not only target the winner, but had transformed most of the singers who had been on the show.

Since its inception, Batswana have been glued to their television screens every Sunday evening to watch their favourite singers on the My Star Show television programme. The winners of the competition are usually sponsored to study and they also have their albums released by the producers of the show. ENDS
