GIMC Champagne Picnic to celebrate fashion
21 Aug 2022
The scenic Purple Paradise in Oodi will host the city’s most sought after lavish lifestyle event, the Gaborone International Music Concert (GIMC) Veuve Clicquot Champagne Picnic on Sunday.
This year’s Champagne Picnic is set to be a breath of fresh flair with patrons in their light fabrics of pastel and neutral colors to match the theme #ClicquotInTheSun.
To celebrate this glamorous fusion of fashion and entertainment, GIMC Champagne Picnic teamed with some of Botswana’s finest designers, Sparkling Fashion Designers and ThabieD to create a bespoke piece of clicquot fashion to match the theme.
“I collaborated with GIMC Champagne after realising that the event’s patrons dressed unsuitably - a flaw to the theme,” said Mompati Leatso of Sparkling Fashion Designs.
He said people usually wore outfits they would normally wear for office or weddings when attending the champagne picnic.
Leatso said he was in this partnership to change the complexion of the event in terms of fashion sense.
He said the theme demanded bright colors with elegance.
“Guests should go all out with no limitations for this event, be bright and elegant,” said Leatso, highlighting shades of green, mustards, whites, oranges and many other bright and shiny colours.
Furthermore, he said to ensure people followed the theme, it was advisable for patrons to consult with fashion designers as they were ideal style advisors on what to don for the Champagne Picnic event.
“It is our duty as designers to tell our clients what is appropriate to wear for events, therefore they need to consult with us,” Leatso noted.
Thabiso Dibeela of ThabieD will be dressing one of Gabs socialites Basadi Masimolole.
“Her design is inspired by wealth creation and colour by the sunset,” Dibeela said.
Dibeela advised first timers to the event to wear sunset themed colours with shades of the sun.
“Dress elegantly simple, a picnic is about relaxed pleasure and opulence,” said Dibeela, adding that people should avoid uptight heavy fabrics and wedding-like fabrics and designs.
The GIMC Champagne Veuve Clicquot Picnic will also provide guests with chilled flowing Veuve Clicquot champagne, gourmet brunch offerings, tempo tunes with performance by Eugene Jackson.
Although there will be music and performances, organiser of the show, Fish Pabalinga said they did not make the event about entertainment, but focused more on fashion and guests.
He simply advised his guests to be ‘bold, colourful, look as hot as the sun,’ as the theme is basically about expressing oneself. ENDS
