KTM choir will host a three-day show dubbed A re yeng Batswana, in partnership with Mophato Dance Theater from September 5 to 9 at Gaborone’s Maitisong Theater.
Addressing a press conference in Gaborone on Tuesday, KTM Choir board chairperson, Lorato Morapedi said the show would be one of a kind since it would feature two of Botswana’s accomplished groups.
She said KTM prides itself in telling their story through choral music.
The show is a precursor to the choir’s 30th anniversary to be celebrated next year while Mophato Dance Theatre, an Afrofusion contemporary dance ensemble, has been in existence since 2009.
The two have raised Botswana’s flag internationally and also command respect locally.
Morapedi said telling Botswana’s story through choral music and contemporary dance collaboration was the best way to show appreciation for the love and the support they had received throughout the years.
She said they were excited about the collaboration that would promote Botswana’s rich culture to the world.
KTM also prides itself in that it has produced quality singers, choir conductors, composers and other talents that have decorated the country’s creative industry.
The show will tell a story of how Bechuanaland transformed to the current Botswana.
Having won gold in the folklore category as first timers during the 2019 European choir games, Morapedi said the achievement proved their international recognition and were now invited to the world choir games to be staged July next year in South Korea.
For his part, Mophato Dance Theatre director, Andrew Kola said they were privileged to share the stage with a choir of such a calibre. ends
