Oodi was turned into a rainbow of colours during the Botswana Colour Carnival at the Serene View Gardens on Saturday.
In an interview, Boago Macheme, who has been taking part in the colour run marathon for years, said she had never come across such a large number of people and was happy that it was mostly children.
“You can see for yourself, the kids are splashing different colours at each other and the garden looks colourful. Everyone looks happy and I enjoyed the carnival dancers and the Rhumba,” she said.
One tourist, Monica Govender from South Africa, who came on Monday said her cousins invited her to the event and as a colour run marathon lover she couldn’t miss it.
She said she loved how colourful the event was and was fascinated by the colourful carnival festival touch that featured local artists.
“Breathing colour into the beautiful sky of Botswana and seeing people happy and dancing is the main aim of the run,”she said.
Even though the event brought smiles to many, many colour runners enthusiasts showed dissapointment at the food stalls.
Thuso Molelekwa, who brought the whole family to the event, said there was not enough food stalls to cater for different people’s tastes.
“There are only hotdogs and chips stalls and some people prefer other kinds of food so I think next year organisers must look closely at it. That’s my only concern, however, the colour festival is beautiful and I guess you can tell by looking at all the colorful faces,” he said
The event was also graced by female DJ,s who kept their fans busy.
One of the DJ’s who also performed during last years colour run was Onkemetse Kgatiso aka DJ Fizzy.
She was also happy about the outcome of the event and thanked colour run organisers for involving women Djs, saying they were in support of women empowerment especially during the month of women.
The event organiser, Olebile Keegope said he was happy about the outcome of the event and was overwhelmed by the attendance.
He promised colour runners that next year organisers would improve certain things.
“The event went well and many people came in large numbers that there was no parking.”
As for next year colour run, Keegope said they would look for a big venue and was aware that people complained about the menu provided at the food stalls.
Next year when people register for food stalls, he said they would look at the menu that would be provided so that the event caters for everyone, especially that the marathon vouch for healthy living.
He also said he was intrigued by the number of people who registered to donate blood in the future at the blood transfusion centre.
The next colour run event will take place in Francistown in November. ends
