Meat lovers will be in for a chew as the sixth edition of Ghanzi Meat Festival billed for Makaleng farm, a stone’s throw from Ghanzi Township on July 30-31 promises to be characterised by an  assorted meats affair.

The main event will be on Saturday while it’s after party dubbed Jazzy meat will be on Sunday.

In an interview Tuesday, founder and creative director of Kawa entertainment, which organises the festival, Gregory Lesibe said this year’s event would shine with at least 10 species and enthusiasts  should look forward to zebra, eland, gemsbok, kudu, donkey, wildebeest, impala, warthog and two new entrants, which are giraffe and pork.

“We are crossing our figures to have camel meat from Tsabong.”

He said beef and chevon were always available at the festival.

Lesibe said there would be at least two sides and braai for each species.

He said unlike the previous years, entrance fee would only buy the ambience, therefore meat  lovers would have to part with their money to satisfy their carnivorous appetite.

However, he said  there would be a welcome braai pack  offered at the entrance when gates open until 10pm.

Nonetheless, he said VIP ticket that go for 450 would be  accompanied by a booklet titled pasa ya go ja nama that  wopuld be the holder’s passport to endulging in four species for free together with a special service.

This year he said meat would be served with potatoes, saying ‘we are celebrating what is in abundance.’

He said food stalls would be allocated to the community members for free and preference given to associations, churches, clubs, women and youth groups.

Lesibe explained that expectation was for each stall to prepare at least three species, ‘but we will not dictate what to offer’.

Offering stalls to the community for fee is part of the festival’s corporate social responsibility, said Lesibe, adding that they wanted to include community as the event was the people’s project and the pride of Ghanzi.

He was hopeful that the gesture (offering stalls to the community for fee) would go a long way in improving community socio- economic status.

Lesibe said the safety of attendees was guaranteed as the festival attracted a mature and  calm crowd. The festival, he said, would feature renowned Djs among them Dj Sid, Dj Sly, Owen as well as  Ghanzi based Djs.

Proceeds from the event will be channelled towards Ghanzi Meat Festival beauty Queen’s project in her quest to combat ring worms affecting pupils in primary school boarding facilities in the Ghanzi region.

He said this would be done in collaboration with the local salons alongside District Health Management Team.

Sponsors of the festival include Famous Grous, Kgalagadi Breweries Limited, Pholo Guest House, Kubunyane Cement Products, Silver horizon, Katlotla physiotherapy and Thapediso company. ENDS
