The David Tlale NIVA jacket was the highlight of the Gabs July Fashion Show during an event held in Gaborone on Friday.

The jacket worth more than P10 000 was presented to the Minister of Finance, Peggy Serame, who had the chance to model it on the ramp, affirming that the David Tlale brand is a label that commands respect and turns heads.

Serame, who was happy to receive the David Tlale design, said the glamorous silky, loose fitting shawl/collar jacket was her first item from the fashion icon.

She also thanked Tlale for collaborating with local fashion designers, saying such a move  would help enhance the industry.

The fashion show held under the theme; Winter Glamour, also featured designs from the likes of Albertina Ntwaagae of Lira Fashions, Abbie Goabaone of Chosen Designs, Malebogo Diboko of MelG Designs, Thapelo Mokgethi of Seloba Creations, Gasegale Sengwaketse of

Lutterich Bw, Chawada July of  Butterfly Couture and Mummy Molapo of Art iStory.  

When presenting the gift to Serame, Tlale, who was dressed in fancy black attire, said he was happy to be in Botswana, a country close to his heart, saying was also from a Batswana tribe in South Africa.

He said the gift was a gesture to thank Minister Serame for gracing the event and supporting the fashion industry.

For his part, The Gabs July director, Ben Ben said the fashion show was a build-up to the main horse race event scheduled for July 30 at Sebele Race track.

He said horse racing was synonymous with fashion and expressed delight for being part of such a fashionable sport.

He confirmed that the event would attract about 65 horses while close to P185 000 had been raised as part of the prize money.

He said 65 CC motorbikes will also add fun and evoke some adrenaline rush to a series of activities making the line-up.

Ben said they had also incorporated show jumping,  where a jockeys and their horses would jump over obstacles within a set time limit. BOPA
