What to get up to in Gabs during holidays

12 Apr 2022

If you are one of those who have not made any plans for the long holidays, there’s no need for Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) as promoters and entertainment joints across the city have planned a series of activities to keep one entertained during the long Easter holidays.

Starting from Thursday most stages will be set for revelers to unwind.

Gaborone International Music Culture (GIMC) have patrons covered with their Afro Tech festival scheduled for Saturday at Purple Paradise.

The festival lineup features entertainers including Sun El Musician, Lemon and Herb, Raul Bryan, Hapex Guru, Casper The DJ, with the show expected to deviate from the Amapiano and Limpopo dominated music.

“There is need for variety in music scene, and Afro Tech is a growing genre which we have decided to bring to life in Botswana,” said  GIMC festivals organiser Fish Pabalinga.

As a norm Amapiano shows will be dominating the showbiz space this weekend, and looking comfortable at the top.  Among the Amapiano shows that will be scattered around the city and giving the fans a variety of choice is the Keys of the City’s Khaya lifestyle.

“We are bringing life to Gaborone during this time, by bringing artistes who have not yet performed in Botswana,” explained organiser of Khaya Lifestyle Experience Zaine Aftamath.

Keys of the City will host South African vocalist Nkosazana Daughter alongside her fellow Mzansi act Costa Titch who will be both performing in Botswana for the first time.

The event slated for Top High Events in Gabane on Thursday, will also feature South African Blaq Diamond and Msaki.

Local scene will be represented by DJ Sly, DJ Bunny and DJ Gouvea and many others on the turn tables.

Master KG’s hit single Dali Nguwe features Nkosazana Daughter while Costa Titch, a rapper, dancer and songwriter has wooed fans with his smash hit Big Flexa with popular lyrics ‘too hot like a heater’ which is also a hit on Tiktok.

Fisher Gardens at Ramotswa will be one of the places to be on Holy Friday, as they will be hosting Easter Bunnies BW.  The do will present deep house DJ Fistaz Mixwell who is expected to relieve old school vibes which appeals to those in their 40 and 50s known as the Generation X.

Fistaz Mixwell needs no introduction to the GenXers who are House music lovers.

But to the Generation Y and Z (Gen Y and Gen Z) often referred to as millennials, a click on Google will give insight into the celebrated deep house DJ who has been on the music scene for many years.

“We are creating an entertainment hub in the Southern part of the country especially during Easter holidays where people usually head out to the North and West particularly Maun for entertainment,” said organiser of Easter Bunnies Kokeletso Gwaranti.

He noted that the show will cater for all active outgoing age groups. The millennial stage, he said will be rocked by Toss, Mdoov and 9Umba of Umlando hit, Ch’Cco of Nkao Tempela, Master KG all from South Africa.

Botswana’ finest piano act FME DJs will also grace the Ama2k stage alongside DJ Bunny, Ricky Lamar with MC, Lebo Molax and MC Theo. Popular for hosting Ladies’ nights featuring international acts, United Lounge will also have something different for its patrons.

On Thursday United Lounge will present Outdoor Easter celebration on their premises’ parking lot, with Mzansi piano duo Amaroto and vocalist Dali Wonga alongside renowned Vee Mampeezy. The show will also be supported by DJs Makhenzo, Fondo Fire, KSB, Sly and many others. ENDS
