After hosting two impressive comedy shows local comedian and one of the pioneers of local standup comedy Modiri Keseabetswe is hopeful of spreading his wings wider, by expanding his efforts and mobilising more talent locally.

Speaking on the sidelines of the second edition of the Comedy factory Botswana, Friday night at the lavish Ngwedi Park Courtyard in Phakalane, Mod as Keseabetswe is fondly called, said he was encouraged to see massive support from local comedy lovers who had come in pleasing numbers for support.

He said the presence of Phakalane Estate executives at the show was signaling a positive way in their intent to establish the genre as a business entity.

Mod said they were to sit with the Phakalane business people and forge a way forward.

He said looking at the positive response they got from the crowd they were intending to host monthly shows and invite more local talent to the shows.

Quizzed on whether they intended to take their talent across borders Mod said their primary mandate was to unearth local talent and show the world that the local comedy talent was abundant and only required to be nurtured.

“Depending on what the future holds we might say we would want to invite international acts but since we are at our infancy stage let us slowly build up and let’s see what happens.

We are growing our own, we should be able to put up a great show with these local acts,” he added.

He said they were aiming to host a number of shows in the coming weeks.

As expected Mod who stepped in as the MC for the night ignited uncontrollable laughter from a sizeable crowd in their second installment.

Mod together with one of his right hand man in the comic industry Bafana Letsatsi fondly known as Ribcracker were joined by an equally talented all-star cast in the mould of Kago Rannoba affectionately known as Johnny Pula, Ndiye Tamba also known as Triccs and Bambino Ndiwenyu.

Mod threw occasional jibes at the audience and nearly stole the limelight from the main performing acts.

He went down memory lane about growing up in government schools and the plight of government schools versus private schools.

Ribcracker kept the crowd in stitches with his comic lines making fun of his recent marriage to his longtime girlfriend.

He also decried the skyrocketing hike in commodities such as petrol and groceries.

He said government had also felt the pinch of fuel hikes as central transport organisation’s pumps were running dry.

“Ha o leletsa ko police bosigo o kopa thuso ba go raya ba re motho wetsho ga rena fuel re kopa o tle go re tsaya.”

Triccs who is easily spotted by his kasi styled dress related life in townships in a mockingly funny way. Bambino became the last act of the day and spoke of his kalanga roots.

Bambino one of the finest brews in comedy locally touched on a number of topics and showed maturity in his presentation. ENDs
