The 2022 MRS Botswana finalists to address GBV during field work
27 Mar 2022
This year MRS Botswana 14 finalists will embark on field work projects at their respective locations where they will address communities on Gender Based Violence (GBV) and formulate strategies to combat it.
Contestants will therefore be judged based on their projects. When launching the 2022/23 finalists in Gaborone on Saturday, the pageant’s National Director Kgalalelo Lesetedi said the pageant’s annual gender based tasks made it unique because it focused on equipping finalists with skills that would enable them to create a better future.
In addition, she said MRS Botswana’s aim was to build better families by encouraging people to have a positive perception about marriage.
This year’s pageant is scheduled for September while last year queen Ambrociah Samboko will be among the 89 countries that will compete for MRS Universe title billed for South Korea June.
The pageant in its fifth year running crowned its first queen in 2017 to advocate for healthy happy marriages, she said. She said having been able to crown queens even during the COVID-19 era, was a notable achievement as such promoted consistency in their efforts to fight GBV, which also became apparent during lockdowns.
She expressed gratitude towards government and companies for having shown the willingness to help them.
Lesetedi said financial constraints was a setback as it hindered them to perform certain tasks. During the launch, the 30-year-old Samboko presented on ‘Discovering yourself,’ stressing that people should give up on their dreams and should take introspection to see if they were doing enough to fulfil their desired life visions and missions.
Encouraging the finalists ready to go for field work, she said they should have fun and enjoy. Dr Malebogo Eluya, a registered dietician said the event was important as it addressed families and not individuals.
She was invited to talk to the finalists on the aspect of health and she wanted them to look at their health in the aspect of family health. She said healthy family was fundamental in achieving desired goals. ENDS
