Easter experience to thrill elderly revellers
16 Mar 2022
The upcoming Easter Experience with Yvonne Chaka Chaka music show, set to take the elderly to their younger days, will be staged next month.
The event, organised by BAISAGO University, will be headlined by the legendary Yvonne Chaka Chaka sharing the stage with local acts including Sereetsi and the Natives, Dr Vom, DJs Tony and Mcjoin, among others.
Giving an overview of the event on Monday, the Director of Events and Marketing at BA ISAGO University, Agnes Mohwasa noted that festivals often catered for the youth and vibrant, leaving out older revellers. She said even though elders desired to attend festivals, the music played and the environment were not to their liking.
Mohwasa said the Easter experience festival was also meant to help elders rewind from the challenges that some might have encountered during COVID-19 pandemic.
“We chose Yvonne Chaka Chaka considering that she is an older artist, and most of the elderly are still fond of her music. This event will run annually and we will keep on bringing elderly artists from different genres,” she said.
Mohwasa said at some point in their lives, elderly people actively engaged in entertainment activities and it was therefore imperative to organise laid-back activities that would help them recall the memories.
The Easter Experience with Yvonne Chaka Chaka is the first of its kind to be hosted by BA ISAGO University and the organisers plan to channel some profit towards corporate social responsibility activities.
Mohwasa also said the event would help to revitalise the entertainment industry, increase hospitality margins, and benefit street vendors and local transportation operators. It would also bring new life to the city, she observed.
For her part, Chaka Chaka, an internationally recognised South African singer, song writer, and actress, among others, said she was looking forward to the event.
“It has been a while since I visited Botswana. I am hopeful that my visit will bring positive outcomes.
The event will be an opportunity to interact with my elderly fans, bringing back their old memories and appreciating the old genres, “she said.
The celebrated musician expressed her preparedness to abide by stipulated regulations at the country’s entry points. ENDS
