Local musician cum businessman Bokang Proctor has shown his versatility by expanding merchandise for his label, collectionsbybkproctor.
Collectionsbybkprotocor store, which has relocated to Fairgrounds Mall will open its doors to the public on Tuesday.
In an interview, the footwear, apparel and accessories owner said the new design boasted of a museum-like aesthetic defined by the black walls and a Led lighting system.
“This interior concept is supposed to become the backbone for future collections of the Bk Proctor stores worldwide,”he said, hinting plans for expansion.
The rapper and music producer said they would be launching new designs at the new store, which included new footwear lines and apparel.
Proctor is confident that concept studios are the answer to the invasion of the big retail chains, and wants to create an exclusive and personal space that offer diverse fast fashion pieces, art and lifestyle atmosphere of the 21st century.
Bk Proctor, as he is affectionately known,is a role model to other musicians who want to diversify.
The artiste said transforming from being an artist-producer to creating footwear and apparel was not a hard move, as the principles of creativity and creation between the two industries were somewhat similar.
He said his brand had embraced #Pushabw brand and had ignited the spirit of pride and celebration of local brands among patrons.
“The business, employees as well as our loyal clientele mean a lot to me. Its impact has ignited the spirit of pride and celebration of our own local brands and products,” he said.
Being a self-financed businessman, Proctor said starting it was not a walk in the park as he encountered challenges. However he learnt and adapted to the growing demands for the success of the brand.
His passion for creativity and innovation coupled with his love for fashion and unique designs, led to the birth of his brand.
Concerning his music career the budding entrepreneur said he was trying his best to strike a balance between making music in studio and designing fashion pieces.
He said the principles in the creation of the two were very much similar if not the same.
“I have been in the studio for a while now working on some new music and collaborations, so most definitely this year you will hear more music from Proctor.”
The brand has also taken part in the social responsibility. Last year they sponsored the 2021 Yarona Fm Awards.
It is undeniable that the brand is set for great heights, verified by being awarded the most influential brand in Botswana by 100 Brands Africa in 2020.
Some of the brand’s notable feats includes their collaboration with St. Louis Lager in making a St. Louis branded sneaker for their Jwa Rona Can Campaign in 2021.
“We are excited to share with you that we are working on a collaboration with First Capital Bank for this year.”
Regarding tapping into the kiddies and teens market, Proctor said it was something they were planning for the future.
The company’s five-year strategic plan, he said, included, to continue focusing more on their core product, footwear.
He said they had a long list of footwear lines they had been sampling and preparing to be released later this year.
Proctor said they had a few lines coming up which would include a Tswana named sneaker.
The company is working on the next concept store to be openend in Francistown and the plan is to spread to other places across the country. He encouraged young people and fellow musicians to create unique business models in order to succeed in business.
“Regardless of the quality of the product, without a progressive business model, it may not reach its true potential. Our quality speaks for itself and it’s something we lead with in all our products to business dealings,” Proctor concluded. ENDS
