Preparations for the first ever Women’s Awards Botswana (WAB) are in full swing.In an interview with on Monday, the chief organiser and Director of Zeb Nal Events Management Consultancy, Bofelo Zebe said the awards, slated for next month, will be under the theme: ‘We are capable and we can’.

He said the awards were open to all women, (young and old) from all walks of life and the winners would be selected through a public voting system.

The categories include: influential woman of the year; best woman owned business; female artist of the year; the best woman in creativity and innovation; agriculture; entertainment; arts, culture and heritage; best sports woman of the year; media woman of the year; best woman living with disability and inspiring male supporting women, among others.

Zebe said the maiden event was meant to appreciate women who have redefined feminine roles, adding that some have turned some societal perceptions and cultural beliefs that women belong to the kitchen or are only useful for taking care of babies and doing other domestic errands. 

Some have engaged in empowerment and community building projects, which have hitherto been considered a male preserve.

He said the theme emphasises that women are equally talented and capable, if not better than their male counterparts, and can excel in any chosen career path.

He further said the event would give the women an opportunity to network, share experiences as well as to encourage them not to conform to societal and cultural dictation. ENDS
