Thapong to host mural painting event

Thapong Visual Arts Centre will host a mural painting activity next month.
The mural painting activity was made possible by Botswana Plascon Depot in Gaborone, which donated materials including pure acrylic emulsion and unique dirt barrier 12-year guarantee paints, among others.
In an interview, Thapong Visual Arts Centre Coordinator, Reginald Bakwena said the activity was set to reignite the creative spirit among artists and also to accord them a chance to interact and find ways to co-exist with COVID-19.
He said it would bring together stakeholders of the centre to come up with fresh ideas and designs that will help to enhance the centre’s appearance.
“Some of the artists feel defeated and discouraged due to challenges they encountered during the pandemic and from other social matters, therefore this activity is set to motivate and revive them,” he said.
Bakwena said though the pandemic was a hard blow, artists should not despair, but strive to be innovative and adopt a positive mindset.
He said the mural painting activity would also give upcoming artists an opportunity to showcase and hone their skills, while availing a chance for them to be nurtured by those who had been in the industry for some time and were doing well.
Bakwena further said painting would be done on outside walls of the buildings and each participant would come up with their own theme, to create different fun patterns.
For his part, Plascon Botswana Sales Manager, Gaketshepe Piet said the donation was a way of giving back and supporting visual artists. ENDS
