Team Holdings Group, through its retail wing, Western Furnitures has made some comedians to crack jokes all the way to the bank.

The furniture store hosted a competition in which the funny guys were required to compose and shoot a three minute video marketing the store’s products and brands.

Kentse Madome, who goes by the stage name Mhele Productions, won the competition, cashing P25 000 followed by Kaone Ngwanaamonna with P10 000 while Kitso Kereng pocketed P7 000.

The competition attracted 23 upcoming and established comedians across the country and the furniture shop spent 100 000 on all of them.

Speaking during the event, chief executive officer of Team Holdings, Gramaprahasam Devdevan said the competition was their small contribution to assist the creative industry, which had been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. He added that it was not the responsibility of government alone to assist the sector, hence Team Holdings chipped in.

He noted that the entertainment industry had shed a lot of jobs during the pandemic and that the most effected were the youth.

For his part, chairperson of Botswana Comedy Association, Modiri Keseabetswe applauded Team Holdings for the gesture.

He said the initiative would enable comedians to invest in their creativity, deliver quality work and brand themselves.

Kgosi Keabetswe Dihutso of Mogoditshane called on other companies to emulate Team Holdings Group, saying the performing arts had lessened the impact of unemployment among the youth. ENDS
