The beginning of a new year is the time when many go back to their vision boards, to plan for the year ahead.

Breaking Barriers, a book authored by Oreeditse Marakakgoro can come in handy for someone trying to figure themselves out.

“Don’t underestimate your value, and don’t compare yourself with other people.

Remember that you are born for a different purpose,” are some of  the messages captured in the book.

A woman in sport, Marakakgoro also teaches that gender, religion and political difference should not be a barrier between someone and their goals.

Breaking Barriers portrays Marakakgoro as someone who despite having a small body structure, was talented and active in sport and liked traditional games.  “It’s up to an individual how they want to live their lives, the decisions that we make in our lives will either keep us in the race or kick us out,” Marakakgoro states in her book.

Breaking Barriers is a book that can help one realise that with focus, achieving one’s dreams is possible. It tells a story of a woman who broke barriers to be where she is in sport, an area that appeals mostly to men.

It features topics as, pushing no matter what, who is your Inspiration and celebrate yourself, and she attributes her success to God.

The book can be of use to women in male dominated careers and anyone who needs some inspiration.

The author hails from Serowe and is a teacher by profession. She is also a sport commentator, mentor and sport administrator. ENDS
