Makhadzi show to benefit local artists

18 Jan 2022

- The impending Makhadzi’s One Woman Show, scheduled for March 26 at Tlokweng’s Royal Aria stadium, will benefit local artistes in various ways beyond their performance fees.

Makhadzi, real name Ndivhudzannyi Ralivhona, undoubtedly made a mark during her festive season shows held in Botswana, which resulted in more demand for the South-African powerhouse’ music locally.

“It is evident that Batswana did not get enough of Makhadzi when she was performing in the country recently, so the show comes about as a result of her popular demand in Botswana.

We decided on the one woman show for her to be the main performer, catering for both day and night audiences,” said the organiser, Gilbert Seagile of Gilbert Promotions in an interview.

Seagile said the show was an opportunity for Makhadzi’s local fans to come and enjoy her music since her current popularity and high demand had resulted in a hectic schedule of international shows lined up across the world.

Even though Makhadzi will be the centre of attraction, with two performances on the day, Seagile said 80 per cent of the line-up is made up of local artistes such as Vee Mampeezy, Dr Vom, Slizer and MMP family, Team Distant, among others.

Theo Bome, popularly known as Hey Nyena, whose stardom continues to rise, will also make the line-up as an MC, alongside T.H.A.B.O.

Supporting acts, which include South African rapper Cassper Nyovest, have been termed ‘Friends of Makhadzi’.

Seagile said the event will also enhance cultural exchange since it will be extensively marketed in South-Africa, and a consequential documentary be sold to various entertainment channels.

“We are currently in talks with various media houses in South Africa to engage them in marketing the show to a wider audience, and this will market our artists to the outside world. We are also going to document the show and sell it, thereby providing exposure for Botswana artists who will take part at this event,” he said.

Additionally, Seagile said the 25-year old Ghanama hitmaker has pledged 10 per cent of her profits towards charity and beneficiaries will be identified in due course. ENDS
