Mafikizolo Thrills Revellers
27 Dec 2021
South African afro-pop band, Mafikizolo set the 6th annual Gaabo Motho music festival ablaze with a lively and intense performance on the wee hours of Christmas day at Dladleng recreational park in Moshupa. The talented duo of Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Nciza were riding on the positive energy ignited by Black Motion earlier.
In addition to the long-time hits such as Ndihamba Nawe, Emlanjeni and Love Portion among others, the duo also had a chance to perform their new single Mamezala, which features Simmy.
Local artiste, A.T.I did not disappoint either when given the opportunity earlier in the night as he commanded attention from the crowd. The Poelo-Morago hitmaker set the tone for the rest of the night performances before handing the baton to local DJs to cross over to Christmas day.
Other local artistes such as Vee Mampeezy and Dr Vom also had attendants eating from the palm of their hands, with MC Theo Bome aka Hey Nyena also making an appearance in the morning.
In an interview, the event organiser, Oscar Thebe said the event was a success despite a few hiccups affecting the sound system as well as performance delays. He said that even though the crowd was less than what was expected, he was glad that all the artistes honoured their obligations. He said the low numbers were due to another major festival that was taking place in Kanye on the same day.
However, he was not pleased that Ami Faku’s brief performance was interrupted by revellers splashing alcohol on the stage.
Additionally, Thebe acknowledged that organising a big event in the midst of COVID-19 came with its fair share of challenges since sponsors did not want to be associated with risky behaviour of people crowding. This, he noted, resulted in high cost implications for the organisers. END
