The sixth edition of the Gaabo Motho music festival, scheduled for December 24 at Dladleng recreational park in Moshupa, promises to be better with more security detail to ensure revellers’ safety.
Speaking in an interview, the organiser Oscar Thebe said security would be reinforced with assistance form Botswana Police Service to ensure that there was no repeat of the fifth edition where they were overwhelmed by traffic.
“During the last festival held in 2019 we encountered a lot of traffic and overcrowding at the entrance, but this year we are going to beef up our security and open more entrance points to avoid stampedes,” he said.
He noted that even though they were grateful that the entertainment industry was gradually making a comeback, there was need for revellers to observe COVID-19 protocols to avoid further devastating effects to the economy.
To this end, he called on people to vaccinate ahead of the festival to minimise the chances of infection.
Additionally, he noted that as organisers they intended to play their part by availing extra face masks and sanitisers at the venue to distribute to attendants to ensure that protocols were followed.
He was confident that their over 15 000 capacity venue would provide for social distancing during the event.
He said they managed to secure bookings with renowned crowd pullers such as Mafikizolo, Black Motion, and Kano Mphela, among others despite having a short time to plan.
“We were not even sure if the industry will be open by now, but we tried to bring well known artistes and those who will be coming here for the first time,” he explained.
Local artistes such as A.T.I, Dr Vom, Vee Mampeezy and local DJs are also expected to grace the event, ENDS
