Her Majesty Mma Batlokwa Modelling agency hosted its debut fashion show to select a queen who will represent the agency at Her Excellency International pageant billed for Liberia next year.
Eleven young girls strutted their stuff in Becha clothing vying to be in the Top five which would be revealed at a later stage. The fashion show aimed to pick a candidate who understood the meaning of beauty with a purpose.
Through modelling, the agency seeks to empower young girls aged between 16 to 27 years, building their confidence and helping them achieve their dreams. The director Johnson Tlhobogang said he was happy that his dream of becoming a beacon of hope to a girl-child was taking shape.
The event’s mood was soft toned, a family kind of do, as parents came in numbers to support their young ones.
The youthful beauties were not only judged on the runway but also on their creative designs, which sensitised the fashion lovers on environmental conservation.
Some of the captivating designs they showcased included a skirt made out of umbrella material, another made a bra from a can, while another made a gown from a refuse plastic bag.
The judges certainly had a tough time adjudicating the creative side as the girls had unleashed their potential in their creations. The contestants showed how to dress for less yet caring for the surroundings.
The agency boasts of a social club that assists the youth, both girls and boys in running businesses and addressing other social ills
Tlhobogang observed the growing number of indecent hustling and the use of drugs by students which influenced the birth of his concept.
Even though it’s planted in Tlokweng, the club targets all students and young people. The event also afforded upcoming designers an opportunity to showcase hence Tebogo Sebifelo of Becha Clothing dressed the models.
Testifying about the success stories of young people they work with he said that a mobile Spa for a young woman was born through their initiative.
The 21-year-old Serowe born who has spent many years in Tlokweng said, the initiative also extended to schools in Tlokweng to help learners in their studies.
He said they provided them with psychosocial support and free tutoring. Tlhobogang appealed to the public to sponsor this initiative to help it grow. He used his savings to host this event and hoped for sponsors to come on board in future. ENDS
