A group of local youth has gathered creatives for an award ceremony dubbed Glamour Youth Choice awards (GYCA) aimed at celebrating new generation talent.

In an interview with BOPA recently, GYCA coordinator, Bojelo Maswabi said the awards would unearth and nurture promising talent  of Botswana youth. 

She said the awards ceremony, slated for October, would provide a platform for various local brands to showcase to the international market.

“These awards are on their debut year but my team and I intend to go all out to bring the best event ever,” she said. 

Maswabi said the awards ceremony would recognise talent ranging in different categories such as fashion designers, fashion bloggers, model agencies, models, DJs, poets and photographers.

“As an awarding committee, we chose interviewing different individuals who have businesses which align with some of the award categories,” she explained. 

Maswabi also explained that the interviews would entail getting to know the person behind the brand, what challenges they faced and the inspiration behind their artistic ability. 

She further stated that the COVID-19 pandemic had delayed their plans to stage the awards ceremony earlier, but she believed that they would prevail as the ceremony would now be held virtually.

“I encourage the youth from all corners of the country to take this opportunity of the GYCA’s to nurture your talent, work hard to be the best out there and turn Botswana into an entertainment powerhouse. ends
