Chamo clergyman with golden voice

Thirty- nine-year-old Goitseone Chamo of Mhaka ward in Tonota is a man with a musical talent so strong the writer fears it has the potential to eclipse his abilities behind the pulpit.
Besides music, Mr Chamo is a pastors in one of the three Africa Evangelical Church branches at Manyanda ward in Tonota, where he has been a junior clergyman for three years now.
Pastor Chamo holds a diploma in Theology and Bible Ministry from Assembly Bible College in Tlokweng.
Since the beginning of his musical sojourn in 2015, the Gospel singer cum pastor boasts of a total of seven albums under his belt.
“I started off my musical journey back in 2015 with an Extended Play commonly referred to as E.P in music cycles singing Mookamedi, which was then followed by another single, a fusion of musical instruments for several music genres that included Hip-hop and Reggae,” he relayed to BOPA recently in an interview.
The single, according to Pastor Chamo, did exceptionally well and enjoyed a lot of airplay from some local radio stations, especially RB 1 and 2.
In 2018, the musical genius churned-out yet another brilliant offering titled; This is the day the Lord has Made.
All this while, the clergyman was building his brand and endearing himself to music enthusiasts, in particular lovers of Gospel music.
Days of my Life, a six-track album, came through in 2019.
His wish to record a circular song was granted in 2021 when he entered Africa theme song competition, penning Home.
The well-composed laid back song is about a beautiful continent and its people.
In this song, Pastor Chamo goes by the name Sir Kenoly Snr, which is influenced by his deep adoration for Ron Kenoly, an America Gospel singer.
The master piece is rich with a mix of languages such as Swahili, Portuguese and Shona to show diversity of the motherland.
The rhythm of the song resonates well with what Africa is all about; the ululations and the beating of the drum makes it truly African.
However, all these efforts had gone to waste as last minute technical glitches denied Pastor Chamo the opportunity to submit his work for the grand finale.
As though to redeem himself, Pastor Chamo has produced yet another great work, a six-track Gospel album titled Home.
The rest of the album is a declaration of God’s sovereignty and providence as the Almighty.
For instance, song number three, I can face tomorrow, speaks to God’s trustworthiness during low moments of those that trust in him.
It talks about the hope Christians have on their maker.
Fill me Lord is the fourth song in this album.
It is a lamentation by the singer unto the Lord to intervene in a supernatural way in the calamities life throws at him.
On COVID-19, the soft spoken Pastor is making a clarion call to the nation never to relent.
He said the nation should rather cling to the ‘cross’, where their help would come from.
The copy of the album is not in shops yet, but could be accessed by contacting Pastor Chamo in person. ends
