Dithunya Tsa Rona premieres

Stepping Stones international Botswana founder, Lisa Jamu says Dithunya Tsa Rona docudrama premiered at Capitol Cinemas at Masa will help address social issues in the country such as child abuse.

Speaking during a one-hour premiere on Wednesday, Jamu said the idea of Dithunya Tsa Rona was driven by a parent who needed tips on raising a child.

Stepping Stone Botswana,, she said then decided to come up with the movie to tackle such issues.

She said the title of the movie Dithunya Tsa Rona symbolised children as flowers adding that flowers being delicate needed to be nurtured, protected and handled with care.  

“The way children are raised, treated determined everything about their destiny,” she said.

Jamu said she realised that a drama series would help as it had proven to be one of the fruitful tools in addressing social norms concerning parenting in Botswana.

Also, she pointed out that the movie concentrated on issues such as neglectful parents, gender-based violence and teenage pregnancies.

“The movie will also encourage positive child raising and create safe homes for children.”

Stepping Stones International founder said the success of the movie was made possible by talking to the youth, parents and service providers.

She thanked Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs for their contribution on the film.

Jamu said she was proud that the movie was produced by Batswana and hailed the directors and the cast for their commitment.

The movie features, Ruri played by Bonolo Moletsane acting as a social worker investigating child abuse at the school.

Ruri handles a case in which a teacher, Kago acted by Donald Molosi has been impregnating students.

Kago camouflages as a tutor, and parents send their children for one on one tutorial session at his house.

The unsuspecting young girls gets defiled and impregnated by the unscrupulous teacher.

The drama also featured a 15-minute documentary. ENDS
