COVID-19 will not deter me- Dj Lod Rakim

Sakie Malunga’s determination to make it in the music industry and not be known only in Botswana but across the borders remains intact despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Malunga or Dj Lod Rakim as he is referred to when behind the decks, joined the industry in 2004. He said he used to get gigs at the Francistown Civic Centre which have been affected by  COVID-19.

Having released a number of singles in the past, he also has a full album titled Moments which he released in 2013.

The Serowe-born said House music was his preferred genre but had now adopted a blend of House and Kwaito he called Piano.

He recently collaborated with La Great, a vocalist, to release a single titled Fresh Piano reflecting on struggles brought about by COVID-19.

Its message, he said, was to encourage people especially artistes, to have hope that the pandemic would end and everything would go back to normal.

His wish is to work with established artistes such as Stiger Sola and Ndingo Johwa.

A member of the Botswana Music Union Dj Lod Rakim said he was grateful to Zwakala Clothing Label for sponsoring his projects.

He advised artistes not to give up because their work motivated others.

“You never know how much effect your music has on others and if you persist, you will definitely get to your desired destination,” he said with a hopeful smile.
